This model has a single disc player (Ultra-Slim Profile DVD/CD/MP3 Player), compatible with DVD-Video, DVD-R (video mode), DVD-RW (video mode), Music CDs, Video CDs, CD-R, and CD-RW discs. The AVH-P6500 DVD can also play back MP3 files recorded on CD-ROM, CD-R or CD-RW discs.

You can play back MP3 files recorded on CD-ROM, CD-R or CD-RW discs in ISO9660 Level 1 or 2, Romeo or Joliet formats. Compatible bit rates range from 8-320 kbps, with 128 kbps recommended. This unit is compatible with ID3 tags, and will display recorded folder/file names, track titles, artists names, album titles, recording bit rate and comments.

The Pioneer AVH-P6500 DVD has a powerful Sound Focus and a easy EQ Curves, which include "Super Bass", "Powerful", "Natural", "Vocal", "Custom 1", "Custom 2" and "Flat" preset EQ curves. The "custom" curves are ones that you create and store in memory; a different "Custom 1" curve may be set for each source, and the "Custom 2" curve is one that will be the same for all sources.

You can switch background displays while listening to each source. You can select a plain blue background, a "framed" blue background or a background visual (BGV)--moving pictures depicting dolphins swimming and jumping at nighttime.
